ClassQA ("the App") is a live classroom Q&A platform developed by Yusuf Sheikh-Kassim ("we", "us", "our"). This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Information We Collect

Account information: When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, and authentication credentials. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and profile picture from Google.

Questions and responses: Students submit questions during live sessions. These questions are anonymous to other students but visible to the instructor. Instructors can post text and audio responses.

Audio recordings: If you submit an audio question or an instructor records an audio response, the audio file is stored securely and transcribed using a third-party service (Deepgram). Audio is stored only for the purpose of transcription and playback within the session.

Usage data: We collect anonymized analytics such as session participation counts, question volume, and vote counts to provide instructors with course insights.

Device information: We collect push notification tokens to send you notifications when your questions are addressed.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To provide and operate the Q&A service
• To group similar questions using AI (Anthropic Claude)
• To transcribe audio recordings (Deepgram)
• To send push notifications about session activity
• To provide analytics to instructors about their courses
• To process subscription payments

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services that may process your data:

• Supabase — Database, authentication, and file storage (hosted in the US)
• Anthropic (Claude) — AI question clustering (question text only, no personal identifiers)
• Deepgram — Audio transcription (audio files only)
• Google Sign-In — Authentication (if you choose Google login)
• Apple / Google — In-app purchase processing
• Expo (EAS) — App delivery and over-the-air updates

4. Student Anonymity

ClassQA is designed with student privacy in mind:

• Questions are anonymous to other students — students never see who asked a question
• Instructors can see which student submitted each question to provide better support
• Vote counts are visible but individual votes are not attributed

5. Data Retention

Your account data is retained as long as your account is active. Session data (questions, responses, votes) is retained for the duration of the course. You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us.

6. Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures including:

• Row-Level Security (RLS) on all database tables
• Encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for all data in transit
• Secure token-based authentication
• Audio files stored in private, authenticated-access-only storage buckets

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your account and data
• Export your data
• Withdraw consent for data processing

8. Children's Privacy

ClassQA is intended for use in higher education (college/university). We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us immediately.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by email.
